PICTURE SUPERIORITY EFFECT
In this subtopic, we will be discussing on picture superiority effects or in other words the importance of having pictures and images as some additional elements in our designs. There is a saying that goes 'Visual triumphs over all other senses'. Indeed this saying can be said to be true since most people tend to believe what they see rather than what they hear or feel.
Presence of visual images in designs provides mutual benefits to both the designers and the users. From the users' perspective of benefits, visual images help to aid their memory better. Study has shown that images tend to retain longer in memory compared to information obtained through listening or paragraphs of written text.
Another benefits enjoyed by the users is that pictures have a better information display and they could actually contain more information since pictures could paint a thousand words. Furthermore, designs with good visual aids can help the users to learn better since it enhances understandings towards the design itself besides gaining trust and confidence from its users.
