THREAT DETECTION
Threat detection is a very useful aspect in design. But first of all, what is a threat? A threat can be described as something that is harmful, dangerous and unpleasant. As humans we are often sensitive to the presence of threats and tend to pay more attention towards it. Given a situation whereby you are enjoying the scenery of beautiful flowers in a garden and suddenly you saw a snake on the grass in the middle of the garden. I bet you would not be showing any interest to the flowers anymore but instead your whole focus will be on the snake (a threat).
Looking at the bright side of this negative occurrence, if we were to apply some threatening elements in our designs, we may turn heads and gain attention for our designs. When designing, we need to be careful so as not to put in too much threats elements and neglect others’ emotions. Just be moderate with your creativity when using threats.
Example: The poster of the movie "Chronicles of Narnia"
Source: Printscreen from webpage
Explanations:
Referring to the poster as pointed by the yellow arrow, the face of the lion creates a positive threat that captures people attention and promote interest to watch the movie. The main focus of this poster lies on the face of the lion which serves as a threat detection.
